Bodies in Motion

Hey peeps,

For those of you looking for some tunes to work out to, I've found a list! Apparently Essence.com releases a "Black Music Month Playlist" and this month it's "Work it Out". And since we had our little conversation about getting a new image, what better way than to develop an excise regime with some great music by the artists we love the best? Below you'll find some songs that just might get your body in motion; we'll keep this list growing and don't hesitate to list some of your own favs!

Essence.com Recommends:

~~Free your mind: En Vogue
~~Single Ladies: Beyonce
~~Love, Sex & Magic: Ciara
~~*Closer: Ne-Yo
~~Please Don't Stop the Music: Rihanna
~~*Lose Control: Missy Elliot
~~Freak: Estelle

Some of these songs I'm like.... but the ones with stars are some of my personal favorites that I truly believe are great workout songs. Let me know what we can continue adding to the list!

Self-Exploration Anyone

Hey People!

So recently I've been searching the web and really just exploring. I'd told myself that I wanted to re-image myself. Its a task that can be costly, time consuming, and require a lot of thought (at least in my opinion to do it correctly). I wanted to do something fun, kind of mature (not old woman) and very 'me' appropriate. Just so you have an idea what I'm working with; I still have jeans and outfits from high school that I wear. So yes, I am long overdue for a personal makeover.

So far I've experimented with make-up, more so just trying to find a good everyday look. I've decided that my best combination that's quick and easy is a little bit of eyeliner (black), some mascara and a touch of blush (I use Mary-Kay). It's something that I can usually do in less that five minutes, but it gives me that great natural, yet polished look. I'll probably play with eye shadows later on this summer and update you on that. I'll see if I can find a good picture to post as well.

Another transformation that you all have been following me on is my hair. As you all know, I'm natural now and have been for a little over 3 months. That's going great! I got a trim a couple of weeks ago (I really feel like she cut a lot off >__<) but since then I've tried a new style called mini twists. I'll post the how to on that later and show you all some pictures of that too.

But the last thing I've been working on, is my body image. I currently don't have an everyday regimen or any results but as soon as I do, you'll know about that as well. But in addition to the physical, I've been looking at different things that can flatter my body type and personality. On this quest I found a list of how each color accentuates you. I found it on Essence.com if you want to find the full article but for now be sure to check out what the colors you wear could mean to those perceiving you!

Yellow: bright, alert, optimistic
Green: calm, collected, peaceful
Orange: creative, joyful, sexy
Pink: affectionate, playful, lovable
Red: energetic, passionate, powerful
Blue: logical, analytical, tranquil
Purple: imaginative, inspired, serene
Brown: practical, logical, grounded
Black: mysterious, independent, protected
White: purifying, graceful, healing

Feel free to use my journey to help you find out something new about yourself; I'll be posting whatever helpful information I find and looking forward to your questions, comments and suggestions.

Later peeps!

Is Facebook losing to Twitter

Afternoon everyone!

So just recently I've heard a lot about Facebook losing to Twitter. Many of my peers have talked about deleting their Facebook. Is Facebook indeed becoming irrelevant? Is it true that a series of statuses is more intriguing than the once ever-so-popular Facebook applications?

In my opinion, I'd like to keep both lines of social media open. Though both are very different, they serve different roles in my life (#dontjudgeme), Lol. But are we as a whole, moving towards dismissing Facebook's services?

What are your thoughts?

SeNioR StaTuS

Good evening all!

I am proud to announce that I am officially in the Senior Class ('11) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It's been a tough journey, but I am too blessed to be able to say that I'm in the home-stretch! I'm a senior, reloaded, once again :)

I won't go into detail with all the struggles I've had to get to this point, but let me tell you; it is much deserved. If you know me, you know I'm generally bubbly, smiling, and very optimistic. ♪But what you don't know is when I go home and get behind closed doors man I hit the floor ("Mary Mary-God In Me")♪ I don't believe that there is the need to share all your business unless you are telling your story to help someone else out.

It's understandable if you know someone going through and perhaps hearing you're story will help them through, but for those of you who are attention whores... you gets NO love from me. It's not cute boo -__-

But anyways... CLASS OF 2011 IN THE BUILDING!!! Te-he. Later folks!

Websites to Visit

Good afternoon Peeps!

I'm just tuning in to tell you about some websites I visted today that I found were really helpful. I've been wondering what my hair type was every since I did my BC and saw my little curls. Http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types helped me figure that out! If you'd like to know what your hair type is, I suggest you vist the site. In case your wondering, I believe I'm a 3C with a little bit of 3B at the front. The site is also so gracious as to offer suggested products for your hair type! If that's not a win, I don't know what is.

Another website I stumbled upon was http://www.curlmart.com/ and here you can find some exclusive natural hair products that help bring out your natural curl pattern according to your hair type. I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm already saving up my money and plotting about which products I'm going to try. I'll later post a review after I've tried somethings. Right now I just use IC Gel to define my curls and it suits me alright, but there's always room for improvement. Look out for my newest post to be about my attempted "silk wrap" it's hil-hair-rios --was that a stretch?? Lol.

Anyway, don't forget to send in questions, comments or suggestions!

First Natural Roller Set

Good afternoon all,

I just wanted to tell you about my first experience doing a roller set on Natural hair. First off; the results are excellent! (I'll post pictures later) I decided to do it because I wanted to try something different and I also wanted to get a sneak preview of my length without flat ironing my whole head --which I haven't done since my BC!

So I washed my hair in the shower as I usually do, the products that I used were the Pantene (for women of color relaxed and Natural) Shampoo and Conditioner. I was running low on shampoo so I also used some Herbal Essences Hello Hydration to get a lather. #Sidenote I know a lot of naturals only co-wash, but I feel it necessary to wash my hair with shampoo at least once a week. I also combined my Pantene Conditioner with some honey (yea buddy)!

Once I was out of the shower, I towel dried my hair just a little to keep from dripping water all over the place. I then put some Cantu Pomade and Cantu Silky Shine oil all over my wet hair and then I sealed that in with some Cantu Leave-In Conditioner. Once I was finished applying those products I separated my hair into about 5 sections (2 along each side and one long section going down the middle.

In the future I may separate this differently since I ran into some problems once I got to the back. My rollers were probably medium sized and if you go to my youtube page (http://www.youtube.com/ashlash21) you'll see a short demo (once I post it) of how I detangled, what size rollers, what type of roller and how I rolled each part. I also used Pantene: Relaxed and Natural Setting Lotion for this particular style. See video for more instruction.

Then this morning I took out my rollers, finger combed through my hair, pinned some hair back with bobby pins (to my liking) and then proceeded to flat iron my bang for style. If you have any questions of suggestions that you want me to do to my hair --Please let me know! Look for pictures soon as well as my take on trying other natural hair styles!
